Barbati Gallery is pleased to present Table Manners, a group exhibition featuring 50 artists from 18 countries, all of whom have participated in The Artist Roundtable – a global platform founded in 2020 by Pia Sophie Ottes to foster dialogue, mentorship and collective empowerment among artists. The artists represented span the globe, from Argentina to China, Slovenia to the USA, Leabanon to the UK, the Philippines to Italy.

Marking the fifth anniversary of The Artist Roundtable, the exhibition is a celebration of the generosity, insight and support that artists and guest speakers have contributed to this evolving platform. What began during the 2020 lockdown as weekly conversations around an informal virtual table has developed into a dynamic community where experiences, questions and vulnerabilities are shared openly – reshaping how artists learn, relate and sustain one another.

Set in Venice, a historical crossroads of exchange, the exhibition Table Manners brings The Artist Roundtable’s ethos into physical space. The exhibition traces a journey through the textures of artistic life today: the doubts and breakthroughs, the solitude of the studio and the collective energy of dialogue. Each room reflects a different facet of what it means to grow as an artist over the past five years – not only in one’s practice, but in one’s capacity to listen, to collaborate, to be transparent and to support others.

More than a traditional group show, Table Manners invites visitors to consider the artist behind the artwork: the conversations that shaped each practice, the shared learning that fuelled development, and the communal infrastructure often hidden beneath individual success. At a moment when the art world still rarely speaks openly about collaboration, care and mutual support, this exhibition foregrounds these values as essential – not peripheral – to artistic creation.

Visitors are encouraged to “take a seat at the table” and encounter the exhibition’s key themes: community, curiosity, generosity, vulnerability, reciprocity, transparency. It is a rare opportunity to witness not only the diversity of contemporary artistic expression, but the collective spirit that has allowed these practices to flourish.

A critical text by Julia Marchand accompanies the exhibition.

To mark the platform’s anniversary, a special publication will be released – part exhibition catalogue, part artist manual – featuring reflections, practical insights and direct excerpts from 34 Artist Roundtable conversations held between 2021 and 2025, with guest speakers such as artists Jenna Gribbon, Laure Prouvost, Mark Wallinger and gallerists Aaron Baldinger, Hannah Barry and Martin Bremond, among others.
The exhibition will conclude in February with a public panel discussion, extending The Artist Roundtable’s commitment to shared learning across the art ecosystem.

Barbati Gallery è lieta di presentare Table Manners, una mostra collettiva internazionale che riunisce 50 artisti provenienti da 18 paesi, tutti partecipanti a The Artist Roundtable – una piattaforma globale fondata nel 2020 da Pia Sophie Ottes per promuovere dialogo, mentorship e un senso di empowerment collettivo tra gli artisti. Gli artisti coinvolti rappresentano un contesto geografico ampio e diversificato: dall’Argentina alla Cina, dalla Slovenia agli Stati Uniti, dal Libano al Regno Unito, dalle Filippine all’Italia.

In occasione del quinto anniversario di The Artist Roundtable, la mostra celebra la generosità, l’intuizione e il sostegno che artisti e guest speaker hanno offerto a questa piattaforma in continua evoluzione. Ciò che ebbe inizio durante il lockdown del 2020 come conversazioni settimanali attorno a un tavolo virtuale informale si è trasformato in una comunità dinamica, in cui esperienze, domande e vulnerabilità vengono condivise apertamente – ridefinendo il modo in cui gli artisti imparano, si relazionano e si sostengono a vicenda.

Ambientata a Venezia, crocevia storico di scambi e incontri, Table Manners porta l’ethos del The Artist Roundtable nello spazio fisico. La mostra delinea un percorso attraverso le molteplici sfumature della vita artistica contemporanea: i dubbi e le scoperte, la solitudine dello studio e l’energia collettiva del dialogo. Ogni sala riflette un aspetto diverso di ciò che significa crescere come artista negli ultimi cinque anni – non solo nella propria pratica, ma nella capacità di ascoltare, collaborare, essere trasparenti e sostenere gli altri.

Più che una semplice collettiva, Table Manners invita i visitatori a considerare l’artista dietro l’opera: le conversazioni che hanno plasmato ogni percorso, l’apprendimento condiviso che ha alimentato lo sviluppo individuale, e l’infrastruttura comunitaria spesso invisibile che sostiene i successi personali. In un momento in cui il mondo dell’arte parla ancora raramente in modo esplicito di collaborazione, cura e supporto reciproco, la mostra pone questi valori al centro – non ai margini – della creazione artistica.

I visitatori sono invitati a “prendere posto al tavolo” e a incontrare i temi chiave della mostra: comunità, curiosità, generosità, vulnerabilità, reciprocità, trasparenza. È un’occasione rara per scoprire non solo la varietà dell’espressione artistica contemporanea, ma anche lo spirito collettivo che ha permesso a queste pratiche di prosperare.

La mostra è accompagnata da un testo critico di Julia Marchand.

Per celebrare l’anniversario della piattaforma, verrà pubblicata anche una speciale pubblicazione – a metà tra catalogo e manuale per artisti – che raccoglie riflessioni, consigli pratici ed estratti diretti da 34 conversazioni di The Artist Roundtable svoltesi tra il 2021 e il 2025, con la partecipazione di figure quali le artiste Jenna Gribbon, Laure Prouvost, Mark Wallinger e i galleristi Aaron Baldinger, Hannah Barry e Martin Bremond.

La mostra si concluderà a febbraio con una tavola rotonda pubblica, proseguendo l’impegno di The Artist Roundtable verso un apprendimento condiviso all’interno dell’ecosistema artistico.
