Barbati Gallery is proud to present Danish artist Alexander Tovborg’s new exhibition, ghost. The spaces of the gallery at Palazzo Lezze on Campo Santo Stefano will host Tovborg’s new body of works inspired by an enigmatic encounter with a ghost in Venice.

in one of the narrow streets leading up to campo dei frari.
i saw it reach down for a flower on the street,
only to return upright empty-handed.
i stood by and watched this scene repeat itself again and again. who was haunting whom.

Alexander Tovborg (b. 1983, Copenhagen, Denmark) is a visual artist educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts (2004-10) and the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Karlsruhe, Germany (2007-09). Tovborg’s artistic endeavors are marked by a cohesive vision, emphasizing humanity and magic through the societal prism of the church. His monumental creations capture the interplay between the seemingly impossible and the achievable, crafting a paradox that serves as a poignant reminder of the perpetual mystery surrounding our own existence. Tovbog has had solo exhibitions at Overgaden, GL Strand, Rudolph Tegner Museum, State of Concept in Athens and most recently at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen with the exhibition THE CHURCH. His works have been exhibited nationally and internationally at Camden Arts Centre in London, IMMA Museum of Mordern Art in Dublin, ARKEN, ARos, Holstebro Art Museum and KØS in Denmark.

With the solo exhibitions sacrificial love in Los Angeles and beyond devotion in Tokyo, Alexander Tovborg had his international breakthrough. In Denmark it was the exhibition new eternity at Galleri Nicolai Wallner and later bocca baciata at Overgaden that consolidated him as one of the most important contemporary artists on the Danish arts scene. Furthermore, he has developed large-scale works for numerous public commissions such as for the High Court in Denmark, Copenhagen Airport as well as Jelling Church, Tejn Church and Trekroner Church. His work is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Bremen, ARKEN, ARoS and the Museum of Religious Art in Denmark. Tovborg is represented by Galleri Nicolai Wallner and BLUM.

Alexander Tovborg (nato nel 1983 a Copenhagen, Danimarca) è un artista visivo laureatosi alla Royal Danish Academy of Arts (2004-10) e alla Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste di Karlsruhe, in Germania (2007-09). La produzione artistica di Tovborg è caratterizzata da una visione coerente, che enfatizza l’umanità e la magia attraverso il prisma sociale della chiesa.
